Event Recap
The July 18, 2025 edition of WWE SmackDown from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio felt like one long rumble toward SummerSlam with contract drama, tag team chaos, and some solid matches to keep the crowd buzzing. The women’s action opened with Charlotte Flair besting Raquel Rodriguez after a distraction-driven sequence where Alexa Bliss cleverly decked Rodriguez with a pom‑pom, letting Flair sneak a roll-up to the surprise of many. Damian Priest and Carmelo Hayes technically had a bout, but it turned into a disqualification once Aleister Black jumped in with a Black Mass, establishing some heat between Priest and Black going forward. In Stephanie Vaquer’s matchup with Alba Fyre, Vaquer came out strong, dropped her Devil’s Kiss, and secured a solid win before fending off a post-match Piper Niven attack. The night’s best in-ring action was arguably the four-team Fatal 4‑Way Tag Team to earn a shot at the WWE Tag Titles — Andrade & Rey Fenix clicked surprisingly well, cutting through DIY, Fraxiom, and the Motor City Machine Guns with a high-tempo, chaotic brawl and finishing Tommaso Ciampa with The Message to lock in their contender status. The finale of the show was the SummerSlam contract signing between Cody Rhodes and John Cena, where Rhodes had to get a bit rough to get Cena’s John Hancock on the dotted line for their upcoming title Street Fight, even using a frog splash and the champion’s own title belt as leverage. Plus, there was a backstage wrinkle with Solo Sikoa being linked to an earlier hit-and-run angle and Adam Pearce making a Steel Cage match official for SummerSlam between Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, giving fans two juicy headline direction cues as the big party approaches

Summary
This opener was a short but smart contest. Raquel Rodriguez started strong, using her power to dominate the early exchanges and throwing Charlotte around with stiff strikes and a big slam. Just when it looked like Rodriguez had control, Alexa Bliss interfered at ringside, striking Rodriguez with a pom-pom and creating the opening Charlotte needed. Flair rolled Rodriguez up for the pin, sneaking out a win through clever opportunism rather than outright domination. It wasn’t a spectacle, but it gave Flair momentum heading toward the next major women’s match while keeping Rodriguez looking credible.

Summary
Priest and Hayes went at it with solid back-and-forth action, mixing strikes, counters, and quick transitions. Just as the pace was picking up and Priest looked ready to seize control, Aleister Black appeared and delivered a brutal Black Mass, forcing the referee to call a disqualification. The finish was chaotic but effective, giving the fans a reason to talk about an upcoming Priest vs. Black confrontation. The bout itself was short, gritty, and served more to establish future tension than to deliver a clean outcome.

Summary
The four-team chaos brought high-energy, fast-paced action from bell to bell. DIY and Fraxiom used classic tandem moves and slick counters, while the Motor City Machine Guns added aerial precision. Andrade and Fenix, though a newer pairing, synced well with high-flying maneuvers and crisp chain wrestling. The match spilled outside several times, building tension and creating near-falls that kept the crowd invested. In the end, Fenix hit a Spanish Fly on Tommaso Ciampa, allowing Andrade to follow up with The Message for the pin, earning their team the No. 1 contendership for the WWE Tag Team Championships. The match was chaotic but controlled, giving every team a moment to shine.
