Event Recap
The August 8, 2025 edition of WWE SmackDown from the Bell Centre in Montreal was a SummerSlam fallout show with plenty of big names, surprising results, and hometown energy — even if a few of the matches felt like they were built more on vibe than stakes. The show opened with an unexpectedly huge pop as John Cena hit the ring to address what happened to him at SummerSlam, with the crowd firmly behind him — only to immediately get flanked by Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre, setting the stage for the night’s main event. In the first actual match of the evening, Talla Tonga and JC Mateo (the MFTs) scored a straight‑up win over The Motor City Machine Guns, with Tonga chokeslamming Chris Sabin to finish things off after the early edge swung back and forth. Later, hometown hero Sami Zayn got one of the biggest reactions of the night, trekking out against Solo Sikoa in a non‑title bout and managing to roll up the U.S. Champion despite interference attempts from the rest of Sikoa’s crew, giving the Montreal crowd a memorable moment. In women’s action, Charlotte Flair celebrated Alexa Bliss’ birthday by beating Chelsea Green, frosting and chaos included, pulling off a lockdown Figure‑Eight submission after some early mischief from Heritage characters. The show closed with the big tag: Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and John Cena teamed up against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre, and while Cena and Rhodes technically won via disqualification after Paul low‑blowed Cena, the bigger story was McIntyre flattening Cody with a devastating Claymore through the announce table afterward. It was a night of post‑SummerSlam intensity with crowd‑pleasing moments, hometown thrills, and a brutal main‑event beatdown that left fans hungry for what’s next.

The Motor City Machine Guns
Summary
This felt like classic tag story‑telling: The Motor City Machine Guns came out sharp, using their seamless chemistry to isolate JC Mateo early and keep his hulking partner, Talla Tonga, on the outside where the speedy duo had the advantage. Shelley and Sabin bounced off tags, hit double teams, and even built momentum with a series of slick combinations that got the crowd nodding. But MFT refused to stay down. Tonga eventually powered his way back in after a big near‑fall, dumped Sabin to the floor, and suddenly the pace shifted entirely. Once Tonga was in control, the bigger man drove Sabin through the mat with a thunderous chokeslam, and Mateo sealed the pin. It was a big boost win for the MFTs — and a reminder that even legends like MCMG can get caught when you don’t close the match.

Summary
This one had real heat, especially with Sami slumming it into his hometown crowd in Montreal. Zayn came out fired up, trading chops and strikes with the intimidating Solo Sikoa and actually getting the better of some early exchanges, much to the delight of the fans. Sikoa’s size and power eventually swung things in his favor, and when his buddies kept trying to interfere, it looked like Zayn might get ground into the mat. But Sami kept finding spark, ducking a corner splash and rolling up the champion out of nowhere for the surprise pinfall. There was a lot of flurry and a few interference attempts from the rest of Sikoa’s crew, but Zayn managed to cling to that moment and score the win, which felt huge — if slightly chaotic — given all the outside noise.

Summary
Charlotte’s return to the ring here leaned into the fun side of SmackDown. This match didn’t have a long build, but it had personality: Alexa Bliss’ birthday celebration was interrupted by Green and company, which gave this one some fireworks early. Green took advantage of the distraction and unloaded on Flair with chops and a few neat strikes that actually had some momentum flowing. Eventually, though, Flair found her groove once Green tried to wallop Bliss with a cake‑laden Unpretty‑her, only for it to backfire. Flair locked in her classic Figure‑Eight Leglock, and after a brief struggle with the frosting in her hair, Green tapped. It wasn’t a classic, but Flair looked crisp and in control, and the crowd had fun with the silliness and the submission finish.

Summary
This was the night’s marquee clash, and it felt like a perfectly imperfect confrontation. Rhodes and Cena teamed up with determination, and they traded offense with Paul and McIntyre in a way that had back‑and‑forth energy, with Cena’s babyface reactions hitting huge with the Montreal crowd. Cena tagged in and finally got Rolling, garnering cheers as he chopped and rallied. But Paul low‑blowed Cena right in the middle of the ring, forcing a referee stoppage and a disqualification win for Cena and Rhodes. If that sounds anticlimactic, it’s because the real aftermath was what stole the show: McIntyre relentlessly pounced on Cody afterward, ending things with a Claymore Kick through the announce table that was dramatic and brutal. It left the audience buzzing, and although the DQ finish wasn’t clean, the beatdown punched up the intensity going into the next big chapter.
