Event Recap
January 9th SmackDown out of the Uber Arena in Berlin was a straight up rollercoaster that gave us big moments, surprise returns and a title change that almost felt like dangling fire in our faces, and as someone who watches way too much wrestling this was the kind of show that makes you love and groan at WWE at the same time. The night’s biggest highlight was the brutal Three Stages of Hell main event where Drew McIntyre battered Cody Rhodes to finally win the Undisputed WWE Championship after Jacob Fatu returned out of nowhere to help tip the scales, a finish that got cheers, boos and a whole lot of “did that really just happen” energy at once because yeah it was awesome but also kind of cheap. Along the way Trick Williams kicked off his SmackDown run with a win over Rey Fenix, the eight‑man tag saw The MFTs take out The Wyatt Sicks in a chaotic brawl, and Giulia kept her Women’s United States Title by beating Alexa Bliss which was nice to see since that belt’s finally starting to matter again. Jordynne Grace also scored a clean win over Alba Fyre in her official brand debut and Carmelo Hayes retained the U.S. Title against Shinsuke Nakamura, keeping things feeling competitive on the midcard. There were bits that felt a tad messy and some decisions that made you scratch your head, but having the world title switch hands on SmackDown and a thunderous crowd reaction made this episode feel like a legit turning point early in the year.

After some rapid exchanges and counters, Williams capitalized on a roll-up assisted by a handful of tights for the pinfall victory. The win cemented Williams’ arrival on the main roster and set the tone for his future on SmackDown.

Summary
Giulia defended her Women’s United States Title against Alexa Bliss in a hard-fought contest, but Bliss was hampered by interference from Nia Jax and Lash Legend as the match progressed. Despite Bliss shaking off the early setbacks and nearly hitting Sister Abigail, the outside interference tipped the balance for Giulia. Giulia ultimately hit Arrivederci on Bliss to retain the championship and then took advantage further post-match with more offense.

The Wyatt Sicks
Summary
In a chaotic eight-man tag battle, The MFTs (Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, Solo Sikoa, and JC Mateo) faced The Wyatt Sicks with intense brawling and big spots from both sides. The Wyatt Sicks looked strong early, especially after a hot tag to Uncle Howdy, but the match changed when Solo Sikoa snatched The Wyatt Sicks’ signature lantern outside the ring. That distraction allowed Tama Tonga to hit Cut Throat on Uncle Howdy for the pinfall and the win for The MFTs.

Jordynne Grace’s first SmackDown singles match pitted her against Alba Fyre in a dominant showing by Grace, who used her power advantage throughout. After overcoming distraction attempts by Chelsea Green and Avery (Green’s associate), Grace powered Fyre into the Torture Rack Bomb for a quick pinfall victory. After the win, WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill confronted Grace, signaling future high-stakes encounters on SmackDown.

Summary
United States Champion Carmelo Hayes’ open challenge was answered by Shinsuke Nakamura, who targeted Hayes’ left leg with repeated dragon screw kicks and a Boston crab early in the bout. Despite the damage and scoring a big Kinshasa for a near-fall, Nakamura couldn’t keep up with Hayes’ pace in the closing stretch. Hayes rallied back with a First 48 and Nothing But Net to retain his U.S. Title in a competitive and technical matchup.

Summary
The main event saw Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes battle across three brutal stages: a traditional match, a Falls Count Anywhere match, and a decisive steel cage encounter for Cody’s Undisputed WWE Championship. McIntyre took the first fall after a low blow and a Claymore Kick, Rhodes answered in the second with a Cross Rhodes through the announcers’ table, and the final steel cage stage took an unexpected turn when Jacob Fatu returned, attacking both men. McIntyre seized the moment to crawl out of the open cage door ahead of Rhodes to win the third fall and become the new Undisputed WWE Champion in dramatic fashion.
