Event Recap
Friday night’s WWE SmackDown rolled into the Moda Center on March 6 and ended with the kind of main event shake-up that had the Portland crowd buzzing all the way to the parking lot. Drew McIntyre defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes, and after a hard-fought back-and-forth match that felt worthy of the spotlight, Rhodes managed to score the pin and reclaim the title. The win officially sends Cody to WrestleMania 42 as champion, setting up a collision with Randy Orton. Earlier in the night, Carmelo Hayes kept his United States Championship during another open challenge, defeating Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. in a lively match that had the Portland crowd pretty engaged from the jump. The women’s division also had its moment when Rhea Ripley appeared and came face-to-face with Jade Cargill, making it crystal clear their showdown at WrestleMania is going to be explosive. Elsewhere, the show saw the beast himself, Oba Femi, squash Johnny Gargano and the Allies of Convenience earned next-up in the women's tag division. The men's Tag Team Gauntlet Match was a tornado of matches wrapped up into one, which saw the newly formed team of Ron Cena and Damian Priest standing tall over the obliterated SmackDown tag division. Still, the big takeaway was simple: Cody Rhodes walking out of Portland with the title again. Fans in the building got a real title change moment, which doesn’t happen as often as it should on TV, in a market like Portland, and even a mildly cynical viewer has to admit that these kinds of moments keeps wrestling fun.

Segment recap
Randy Orton opened the show reflecting on his long WrestleMania history, noting he’s competed in 20 and expects this year to be his third main event, vowing to leave with the world title no matter who he faces. Trick Williams interrupted, claiming the “voices in his head” think he should be the one in the WrestleMania main event and referencing their earlier jab about Orton not being 6'5". Before Williams could finish his catchphrase, Orton hit him with an RKO, leaving the segment hinting that a possible Fatal-4-Way for the title at WrestleMania might be forming.

Summary
Carmello Hayes successfully defended the U.S. Championship against Hijo Del Dr. Wagner Jr. after a competitive back-and-forth match. Wagner had several strong moments, including a superplex and a powerbomb, but Hayes consistently found ways to counter the challenger’s offense. The two traded heavy strikes and near falls as the momentum shifted throughout the bout. In the end, Hayes avoided Wagner’s moonsault and finished him with Nothing But Net to secure the victory.

Segment recap
The red carpet was rolled out for Nia and Lash, and they soaked in the boos from the Portland crowd while they toasted their title win and called for any and all challenger. They were oozing with confidence, even after Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair made their way to the ring and tried to claim No. 1 Contendership. Giulia and Kiana James came out and said they plan on making it to Mania one way or another, and winning the tag titles would be just fine. Nick Aldis came out and made it official. And that took us right into...
Summary
The women’s tag match paired Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss against Giulia and Kiana James in a match that moved quickly and kept the crowd engaged. Giulia and Kiana worked well as the aggressive team early, isolating Bliss and trying to keep Flair out of the ring. Once Charlotte got the hot tag, the momentum flipped fast. She eventually caught Giulia with Natural Selection to secure the win. It felt like a showcase more than a grudge match, but the crowd definitely enjoyed the finishing stretch.

Isn't it awesome when you are at a live event and WWE creates a new match type that your website can't handle? Yeah, it was pretty sweet.
Putting that aside, this gauntlet-style tag team "Turmoil" was an extravaganza of high-flying hijinks and veteran power--of course, with a little MFT interference thrown in for good measure. Los Garza scored two of the four pins, which felt much needed for the two that have been mostly missing in action as of late. The Wyatt Sicks had the momentum until Tama and Tonga distracted them. While those two teams brawled their way to the back, the newly-formed-out-of-nowhere team of R-Truth (who went full Ron Cena tonight) and Damian Priest strutted down to the ring and came away with the shock victory. Now they are the No. 1 Contenders and will face to MFTs for the tag belts sooner rather than later. Which, to be honest, is not something any of us saw coming.
Segment recap
Rhea and Jade faced off in the ring for the first time since Rhea's Chamber win. The two debated who had the bigger shoulders, the bigger arms, the bigger legs...and Rhea was happy to concede on all acounts (though not sure the shoulders comparison is even a competition--Rhea wins by a mile...but I digress).
Rhea pointed out that the real difference between the two is that Jade workouts to look good. Rhea, on the other hand, works out to fight. And she made it clear that she could take all the punches Jade wants to throw...but all it will take is one swing from Rhea, and Jade won't get back up. This feud just might get explosive before we ever get to Mania.

It'll take me longer to write this summary than it took for Oba Femi to destroy poor Johnny Gargano. This squash match was an impressive display of Oba Femi's size and ring presence. Gargano's attempt to break out of his depression and rebrand as "Johnny Wrestling" was, sadly, short lived.

Summary
The main event delivered a rare TV title change as Cody Rhodes dethroned Drew McIntyre to win back the Undisputed WWE Championship. After stalling an obnoxiously long time, McIntyre came in aggressive, throwing heavy offense early and looking every bit like a champion who didn’t want his reign ending on a random Friday night. Cody weathered the storm and thanks to a little help from Jacob Fatu, Cody avoided a chair shot from Drew and eventually connected with the Super Cody Cutter, followed by Cross Rhodes, to get the pin and reclaim the title. The Portland crowd exploded for the finish, and Cody ended the show pointing at the WrestleMania sign with pyro firing behind him.
