January 24, 2025 — Moody Center, Austin Texas
Event Recap
Friday’s January 24, 2025 WWE SmackDown from the Moody Center in Austin had enough action to keep your Friday night buzzin’ — even if some parts felt like a mid-card pep rally. The Motor City Machine Guns started things off by taking out Pretty Deadly with Skull & Bones in a fun tag bout that felt like vintage MCMG energy. Michin & B-FAB pulled off an upset over Chelsea Green & Piper Niven, with Michin pinning the U.S. Champ after Eat Defeat — a good reminder that the women’s tag mix is wildly unpredictable right now. A chaotic six-woman tag saw Liv Morgan, Nia Jax & Candice LeRae outwork Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair & Naomi, with Morgan sneaking a roll-up win that got the crowd talking.
In singles action, Apollo Crews snuck by Johnny Gargano thanks to a distraction, and LA Knight scored a big BFT finish on Tama Tonga — but the night took an extra turn when Jacob Fatu blasted Knight post-match, only to have Braun Strowman come out to even the odds. Damian Priest continued his SmackDown welcome with a decisive win over Carmelo Hayes, showing off that South of Heaven power. In the main event, Kevin Owens got the win over Jimmy Uso with a Pop-Up Powerbomb, and then things boiled over with a nasty brawl between Owens and Cody Rhodes that spilled out of the ring — the kind of blood-on-the-mat chaos that gives you that “can’t wait for Saturday Night’s Main Event” feeling. It wasn’t perfect, but the show had enough heat, upsets, and surprise appearances to make it a pretty solid SmackDown night.

Summary
The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) and Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson) put on a good old‑school TV tag match that felt like a breath of fresh air on this SmackDown. Right from the bell, Pretty Deadly tried to impose their style, with Prince and Wilson targeting Sabin early and sending him into the ring post to soften him up, which got the crowd going. MCMG wasn’t phased for long though; once Sabin tagged in Shelley, the pace picked up big time with quick strikes and crisp double teams that reminded you why these two are still such a fun unit to watch. Pretty Deadly had their moments too — they worked the arms and isolated Sabin with submissions and corner offense, and even landed an elevated bulldog on Shelley for a close near‑fall. But when the match opened up, Shelley and Sabin started hitting their signature back‑and‑forth sequences, including flying suicide dives and stiff dropkicks that pushed the tempo into high gear. In the end it was classic tag team precision that sealed it: Shelley and Sabin hit Skull and Bones on Kit Wilson and scored the clean pinfall victory, earning them a solid win and continuing their roll toward bigger things in the tag division.
Summary
This women’s tag match was short but pretty chaotic in a good way. Michin & B-FAB teamed up and clicked better than expected against Women’s U.S. Champ Chelsea Green & Piper Niven. Michin tagged in and out smartly, and ultimately hit Eat Defeat on Green to score the pin. Chelsea looked frustrated post-loss, stalking around like she could’ve done better — which, to be fair, she probably could’ve. Tight, fast, and a nice upset win for Michin & B-FAB.
Summary
This six-woman tag felt like a free-for-all with three big personalities on each side going at it. Rhea, Belair, and Naomi brought athletic offense, but Liv Morgan, Nia Jax & Candice LeRae managed the win when LeRae got the sneaky roll-up on Belair after all the heat and counters. It wasn’t the cleanest contest, and some of the action felt scattershot at times, but the crowd stayed into this random cluster brawl

Summary
In a fun underdog-style singles match, Apollo Crews took on Johnny Gargano, and neither man was having a “just chilling” night. Gargano brought the usual intensity, whipping Crews around and hitting a handful of crisp strikes, but a well–timed distraction by the Motor City Machine Guns opened the door. Crews sneaked a roll-up for the pin after Sabin & Shelley saw to Gargano, which was a cheeky finish that got people talking.

LA Knight and Tama Tonga brawled for over a solid ten minutes in the mid-card, and Knight ultimately got the W with a BFT to Tonga’s jaw for the pin. Tama brought bone-crusher size and power early, but Knight rallied back with chops, shoulder tackles, and big strikes. After the match, Jacob Fatu jumped Knight and laid him out with a Death Valley Drop through a table — and that brought Braun Strowman charging out to even the score. So yeah, it got wild after the bell.

Summary
In a pretty physical singles bout, Damian Priest debuted on SmackDown with a solid win over Carmelo Hayes. Hayes brought his usual swagger and fast strikes, but Priest’s strength kept him in control for long stretches. Priest eventually hit South of Heaven — his big elevated flatliner — to finish Hayes and pick up the pinfall. Not the flashiest match of the night, but Priest looked like a serious addition to the blue brand.

Summary
The main event saw Kevin Owens face off against Jimmy Uso in a heated match that felt louder on commentary than it did in the ring — but Owens still scored a big win with a Pop-Up Powerbomb for the pin. Both guys traded strikes and counters, and there were moments where you felt a clean finish was coming, which was nice. Post-match, Owens and Cody Rhodes argued in the ring, hinting at more chaos to come.
