Event Recap
The April 4, 2025 episode of WWE SmackDown from the Chicago area had the kind of energy you expect when the Road to WrestleMania rolls through CM Punk’s hometown, and the crowd made sure everyone in the building knew exactly whose house it was. Punk soaked in the chants before getting down to business and finally calling in the mysterious favor he’s been holding over Paul Heyman, demanding that Heyman stand in his corner at WrestleMania. That didn’t sit well with Roman Reigns, and the tension in the building only got thicker when Punk capped the confrontation by dropping Reigns with the Go to Sleep, sending the Chicago crowd into a frenzy. In the ring, the night delivered a handful of solid matches. Rey Fenix made his SmackDown debut and picked up a win over Nathan Frazer in a fast, flashy opener that had plenty of aerial offense. LA Knight kept his momentum rolling by defeating Tama Tonga despite the usual Bloodline chaos hovering nearby. The tag division also got some attention when Motor City Machine Guns defeated DIY to become the No. 1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships, a result that should make the champions keep one eye open. Naomi handled B-Fab in short order in the women’s match of the night, but the real headline match was the brutal Last Man Standing fight between Braun Strowman and Jacob Fatu. Chairs, tables, and plenty of destruction were involved before Fatu managed to answer the ten-count while Strowman couldn’t, earning himself a United States Championship opportunity against LA Knight at WrestleMania.
Overall, the show felt like exactly what a pre-WrestleMania SmackDown should be: loud crowd, big personalities colliding, and just enough chaos to make the next few weeks look like they might get very violent very quickly. And if Punk knocking out Reigns in Chicago is any hint, things are probably only going to get messier from here.

Summary
Rey Fenix made his long-awaited WWE in-ring debut against Nathan Frazer, and the match was exactly what you’d expect when two ridiculously fast, high-flying wrestlers share a ring. Frazer came out aggressive and tried to keep Fenix grounded early with quick strikes and snap offense, but once the pace picked up, Fenix started flying. The two traded dives, springboard attacks, and quick counters that had the Chicago crowd fully invested. Frazer nearly stole the match with a couple of sudden near falls, but Fenix eventually took control during the closing stretch. He hoisted Frazer up and finished him off with the Mexican Muscle Buster to secure the pinfall in his SmackDown debut. It was a fast, exciting opener and a pretty strong first impression for Fenix on WWE television.

Summary
United States Champion LA Knight squared off with Tama Tonga in a physical match that never really felt like it would stay clean thanks to Solo Sikoa hovering around ringside. Knight came out throwing punches early, but Tonga managed to turn things around by slamming Knight face-first into the turnbuckle and slowing the match down with heavy strikes and power moves. Tonga built momentum for a stretch and even sent Knight crashing near the announce table after outside distractions came into play. Knight eventually fought back with his usual burst of offense and started landing the big moves the crowd was waiting for. Despite Solo Sikoa trying to interfere, Knight managed to keep the focus on Tonga long enough to connect with the B.F.T. and score the pinfall victory.

Summary
Motor City Machine Guns and #DIY put together a fast-paced tag match to determine the next challengers for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin worked the early part of the match with quick tags and sharp double-team offense, while Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa answered with their usual mix of technical wrestling and opportunistic tactics. The match stayed competitive with both teams trading control and stacking up near falls. The finish came after Ciampa tried to steal the match by putting his feet on the ropes during a pin attempt. That gamble backfired when he accidentally collided with an exposed turnbuckle moments later, leaving him vulnerable. Sabin quickly rolled him up and secured the pin, earning Motor City Machine Guns the No. 1 contender spot for the tag titles.

Summary
Naomi’s match with B-Fab had chaos built into it before the bell even rang. Jade Cargill attacked Naomi during her entrance, which left Naomi already banged up before the match officially started. B-Fab tried to take advantage of the situation and jumped on Naomi with early offense, landing clotheslines and trying to keep her from recovering. Naomi eventually fought through the rough start and began building momentum with quick strikes and counters. Once she got control, she didn’t waste much time finishing things off. Naomi hit a modified Codebreaker-style move to put B-Fab down for the three count. The celebration didn’t last long, though, because Cargill immediately showed back up after the match and continued the fight, turning the ringside area into another brawl.

Summary
The Last Man Standing Match between Jacob Fatu and Braun Strowman on the April 4, 2025 episode of SmackDown was exactly the kind of chaotic, heavy-hitting fight you’d expect when two human wrecking balls are told there are no rules. The match didn’t even bother easing in—it basically started as a brawl before the bell, with Strowman throwing Fatu into steel steps and overpowering him early, only for Fatu to fire back with superkicks, a spinning elbow, and multiple moonsaults that somehow kept the big man on his heels. Once weapons came into play, things escalated fast—chairs, tables, the barricade, and even the announce table all took damage as both men kept beating the ten count over and over. Strowman had his moments, including blasting Fatu through the barricade and hammering him with weapons, but Fatu just kept getting back up, which made the whole thing feel less like a match and more like survival. The turning point came late when the destruction piled up enough that Strowman finally couldn’t answer the referee’s count, leaving Fatu standing as the last man and earning the win. It was messy, violent, and completely over the top—in other words, exactly what it needed to be—and Fatu came out looking like an absolute problem heading into his United States Title shot.
