Event Recap
Friday’s SmackDown from the Prudential Center in Newark was a classic SummerSlam go‑home show: lively crowd, big returns, finish drama, and just enough in‑ring action to get you hyped for the weekend. The show opened with a face‑to‑face between John Cena and Cody Rhodes, where Cena firmly turned babyface and fired up the crowd as he and Rhodes went right at it verbally before SummerSlam’s huge Undisputed WWE Title Street Fight. After that charged opening, Giulia successfully defended her Women’s United States Championship against Zelina Vega in a competitive match full of reversals and power bombs — Vega’s “This is awesome!” moment got the fans really into it before Giulia sealed it with a second Northern Lights Bomb. The AAA World Tag Team Champions Los Garza answered their open challenge and handled Mr. Iguana & Psycho Clown in a fun cameo that mixed lucha style with WWE energy, keeping the crowd buzzing. Damian Priest and Aleister Black finally collided in a tense showdown, but that one ended in disqualification after Black used a steel chair, then continued battering Priest after the bell. The in‑ring action closed with Talla Tonga making his SmackDown singles debut by taking out Jimmy Uso — even after Uso stopped one interference attempt from Solo Sikoa, Tonga shrugged off the offense and hit a big chokeslam for the win. Later, backstage and in the aisle, chaos reignited as Jelly Roll, Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre, and Logan Paul battled ahead of their SummerSlam tag team match, leaving SmackDown with that raw “get me to the PPV” energy that makes these go‑home shows fun even when the finishes feel messy

Summary
This was surprisingly physical for a go‑home title defense. Vega came out firing with quick strikes and even landed an avalanche German suplex that looked like it might swing things in her favor. Giulia soaked up the offense and started wearing Vega down with a solid mix of suplexes, an Arrivederci Knee, and plenty of sharp placement that kept Vega on her heels. Vega didn’t roll over — she kicked out after the first Northern Lights Bomb and got a “This is awesome!” chant going — but Giulia rallied back, hit a second bomb, and got the pin. Vega walked out looking tough, and Giulia held her gold with authority as she heads into SummerSlam.

Summary
This was lively and felt refreshingly different from standard WWE tag matches thanks to the AAA flair. Mr. Iguana came in like a house on fire, scorching the ring with flying offense and making the champs scramble early. Psycho Clown and Iguana hit some fast tags and high‑impact maneuvers, which got the crowd really into the lucha vibe. The champions, Los Garza, showed veteran instinct — isolating Psycho Clown and hitting a clean MTY finisher for the win. It was a fun little burst of energy on the card and a cool showcase for talent from outside WWE’s usual pool.

Summary
This was the match most fans were looking forward to before SummerSlam, and it did deliver intensity even if it didn’t finish clean. Priest and Black traded hard strikes and counters, Black bringing his lethal precision while Priest used his size and grit to slow things down. Momentum swung back and forth until things really boiled over — Black blasted Priest with a steel chair, leading to a DQ finish. After the bell, Black kept hammering Priest with shots, leaving him busted open and selling the aftermath. It wasn’t a traditional finish, but it hit the edge and set their feud to boil over nicely at the big show.

Summary
Talla Tonga made quite a statement in his first SmackDown singles match. Jimmy Uso had the early edge with crafty ring savvy and even thwarted Solo Sikoa’s attempted interference, hitting a big spear to keep Talla honest. But Tonga shrugged off the strikes and kept coming, eventually catching Uso with a crushing chokeslam for the pinfall. You could feel that new‑arrival energy in this one — Tonga looked like a legit power threat, and Uso gave everything he had even in defeat.
