Event Recap
Here’s your WWE SmackDown (August 29, 2025) Event Recap in that casual but fan‑enthusiast voice with just a dash of cynicism — all in one paragraph: Friday night on WWE SmackDown from the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France felt like a “go‑home” show with a surprisingly solid blend of big moments and maddening little bumps between now and Clash in Paris this Sunday. The night kicked off with John Cena and Logan Paul trading verbal jabs, Cena roasting The Maverick so hard the crowd was practically shaking their heads in agreement — and yep, some fans still apparently can’t stand Paul’s presence even when he tries to position himself as the future. Alexa Bliss vs. Chelsea Green was a fun little surprise after Green and Alba Fyre blindsided Bliss and Charlotte Flair before their scheduled tag title match, leaving Bliss to roll up Green in a hasty but entertaining singles bout — then of course post‑match chaos ensued as the heels stood tall once both women were laid out. Michin came out like a lightning bolt with a seven‑second roll‑up on Kiana James that was over so quick some folks probably blinked and missed it, only for Michin to get walloped afterward by James and Giulia. The Street Profits vs. Melo Don’t Miz No. 1 contenders’ match ended with Ford and Dawkins earning a WWE Tag title shot — which they absolutely deserve — after The Wyatt Sicks’ presence spooked The Miz and allowed the Profits to grab the win. And for the big meat of the night, Sami Zayn dethroned Solo Sikoa to become the new United States Champion in a chaotic, crowd‑energizing main event that saw help from Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu even things up before Zayn hit two Helluva Kicks and got the three‑count — a huge moment that got the French crowd fired up and reminded everyone why Zayn still matters.

Summary
Opening the Lyon, France broadcast, Alexa Bliss kicked things off against Chelsea Green after Green and Alba Fyre had blindsided Bliss and Charlotte Flair earlier, leaving Bliss solo and salty before the bell. The match itself was a tense back‑and‑forth with Chelsea trying to prove she belonged in the title hunt, using grounded offense and quick roll‑ups to keep Bliss on her toes. Bliss, ever the scrappy veteran, weathered the early storm, dodged Green’s corner splashes, and hit a sharp DDT to take control. Green fought back with a crucifix pin attempt, but it wasn’t enough — Bliss landed a snap DDT of her own for a clean finish. This wasn’t some five‑star classic, but seeing Bliss stand tall after being mugged earlier definitely felt like justice for the slight and put her back in the groove heading toward Clash in Paris.

Summary
This bout was essentially Michin steamrolling Kiana James in what lasted barely more than a blink — literally seven seconds on the clock. It was one of those “blink and you miss it” moments where Michin popped out of the gates with a dropkick and — boom — a high impact move that planted James for the quick three count. I get the appeal of a squash for momentum, but c’mon, give me something to chew on other than a one‑move pop‑up match. Still, Michin’s speed and aggressiveness were on full display, so even though it was over in a heartbeat, you couldn’t exactly say she didn’t look good doing it.

Summary
This one was reasonably fun — a nice breath of fresh air after the ultra‑short Michin match. The Street Profits went into this as the buzzy underdogs against the slick heel antics of Melo Don’t Miz, and they delivered early action, with Montez Ford tossing himself around like he had something to prove and Dawkins acting as the immovable tank. Miz and Hayes brought their usual sneaky tactics, with quick tags and cheap shots that got the crowd riled. But when Hayes tried to seal the deal with a splash, Dawkins booted him out of the air and Ford immediately hit his standing moonsault for the pin. With the win, The Street Profits became the new No. 1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships — not exactly shocking per se, but satisfying to see the rocket‑powered duo finally get a spotlight moment.

Summary
This was the real meat of the night: Sami Zayn challenging Solo Sikoa for the U.S. Title, and damn if it wasn’t one of those “big‑fight feel” matches you don’t always get on SmackDown. Zayn brought everything he had — the frantic chops, the high‑risk dives, even that patented flying forearm — while Solo used brute strength and methodically tried to grind the fun out of Sami’s momentum. There were moments when it looked like Solo’s power game was gonna steamroll Zayn, but Sami kept finding a way back in, ducking the Samoan Spike and landing a Helluva Kick out of nowhere. When Zayn finally hit it clean and got the three count, the crowd erupted because this was his first‑ever United States Title win, a legit career moment that made the long fight worth it.
