Event Recap
Friday night’s WWE SmackDown from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah was a Halloween edition that felt like a legitimately strong go‑home show for Saturday Night’s Main Event even if it lacked all the spooky theatrics you assume come with October 31. The evening kicked off with Ilja Dragunov defending the U.S. Championship against Nathan Frazer, and that match delivered real intensity before Dragunov retained and then took a post‑match beatdown from Tommaso Ciampa that set up future fire. Carmelo Hayes handled Kit Wilson in a short but fun singles bout only to get blindsided by The Miz afterward, reinforcing that simmering feud. Alexa Bliss then outsmarted Nia Jax with a dropkick roll‑up after Charlotte Flair’s interference helped tilt the odds, giving Bliss a satisfying win for her night’s momentum. In tag action MFT took down Motor City Machine Guns thanks to a referee distraction by Solo Sikoa and a Cutthroat finish, and then beat down Rey Fenix and Shinsuke Nakamura when they came out to even the odds. The show also featured a tense contract signing enhancement between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre where McIntyre continued to manipulate the situation heading into their title fight, leaving SmackDown with serious heat and anticipation for the weekend’s main event. Overall it wasn’t a horror show of silly Halloween gimmicks but it delivered some tangible confrontations and physical matches that kept fans talking as the road to Survivor Series war games continues.

Summary
The U.S. Title Open Challenge was a legitimately energetic match that resonated far beyond its go‑home show billing. Ilja Dragunov brought that aggressive fire we expect from him while Nathan Frazer came in with speed and athleticism, landing a sharp dropkick that sent Dragunov reeling into the steel steps and following up with a nice Phoenix splash. Frazer made this feel like his moment, but Dragunov showed why he’s champion, rallying back with a big powerbomb that drove Frazer into the mat and finished him off with his H‑Bomb for the pin. The action was crisp and competitive, giving both guys shine before the brutal post‑match beatdown by Tommaso Ciampa, which added a little extra heat to the night.

Summary
This one was short but packed in enough offense to make it more than a throwaway. Carmelo Hayes had Wilson on his heels early, but Wilson hit a unique looking DDT that actually looked like it could have changed the trajectory if he built on it. Hayes showed veteran savviness, kicking out before rallying with a quick First 48 for the pinfall. The crowd got a solid taste of Wilson’s potential and Hayes continued to look like a guy who’s always one step ahead, until his night really went sideways when The Miz ambushed him afterward, smashing him into the ringpost and reminding everyone this feud is still real.

Summary
This match leaned into history between these two, but Bliss made it work by staying elusive and opportunistic against someone with significantly more power. Nia Jax dominated the early pace, catching Bliss mid‑apron leap and leveling her with a Samoan Drop that looked devastating. Bliss refused to stay down, and when Jax climbed up for her Annihilator, Charlotte Flair’s distraction opened the tiniest window. Bliss capitalized with a sharp dropkick and rolled up Jax out of nowhere for the pin. It was the kind of bump‑and‑moment finish that makes you cheer and groan because it wasn’t a clean physical win so much as a smart opportunistic one.

The Motor City Machine Guns
Summary
This tag duel opened with serious energy as Motor City Machine Guns looked to throw everything they had at the MFTs. Sabin and Shelley built some momentum with their classic tandem offense, but chaos ensued when Solo Sikoa distracted the referee, giving Tama Tonga the opening to hit a big Cutthroat on Sabin. The MFTs scored the win after that sequence, and even though Rey Fenix and Shinsuke Nakamura came out to try and even the odds afterward, the heels still beat down all of them in a pretty savage post‑match scene. That might have set up future clashes, but it was definitely heel‑dominated chaos in Salt Lake City.
