Event Recap
Friday night WWE SmackDown from the MVP Arena in Albany, New York leaned hard into John Cena’s “Last Time Is Now” Tournament with a packed card of first‑round matches and title defenses that kept the crowd buzzing and sometimes scratching their heads. The show started strong with Jey Uso beating The Miz to advance in the tournament and keep his momentum rolling, and later LA Knight took care of Zack Ryder, giving fans a mix of nostalgia and big‑man energy as the bracket shaped up. Ilja Dragunov answered his U.S. Title open challenge against Axiom with a spirited physical outing and retained his championship cleanly, even if some folks wished the match was a little longer. On the women’s side Jade Cargill showed off her power with a decisive win over B‑FAB that made her look like a serious force. The main event for the WWE Championship between Cody Rhodes and Bronson Reed ended in disqualification when Bron Breakker and Logan Paul ran in and turned the match into a brawl, leaving Rhodes with the belt but the crowd with plenty of questions and hype heading into Survivor Series and the tournament later stages. All in all, SmackDown delivered big moves and bracket progressions with a few messy finishes that feel like exactly the kind of chaotic fuel WWE likes to throw on the fire right before a big pay‑per‑view weekend.

Summary
The tournament match to determine John Cena’s farewell opponent kicked off with Jey Uso facing The Miz, and this one leaned into Jey’s momentum and Miz’s veteran rascality. Miz tried to slow Jey down by playing games, targeting limbs and trying to outthink his younger opponent, but Jey refused to stay down and kept firing back with those explosive strikes and quick tags of offense you connect with. Eventually Jey caught Miz coming off the ropes and hit a big Samoan Drop into the ring apron that looked rough even for a show like this, then followed up in the squared circle with a superkick and a splash for the pinfall win. It wasn’t the longest match of the night, but the crowd seemed into Jey’s energy from start to finish, and him advancing in the tournament gave the show an early crowd‑pleasing result.

Summary
For the U.S. Title Open Challenge, Ilja Dragunov once again proved just how relentless he can be. Axiom came out with some swagger and tried to match Ilja with speed and quick transitions, landing a few nice move combinations that earned a pop from the fans. Ilja took the hits and kept coming, though, and eventually grounded Axiom with that trademark striker‑to‑suplex rhythm that has defined his reign. The finish came when Dragunov hit his explosive H‑Bomb finisher and put Axiom away clean for the three‑count, reminding everyone that beating Ilja requires more than flash offense.

Summary
This tournament match paired LA Knight against Zack Ryder (with some nostalgia vibes from fans who remembered Ryder from years back). Knight dominated much of the exchange with his size, striking firmly with shoulder blocks and big chops that kept Ryder on the defensive early. Ryder mounted a few spirited comebacks and even connected with a Rough Ryder that got cheers, but Knight shrugged it off like the veteran he is and delivered BFT for the clean finish. It was pretty much what you expected when Knight was booked as the stronger competitor, and it sets up a feel‑good bracket going forward in the Cena tournament.

Summary
In the women’s singles matchup, Jade Cargill continued to look like a literal wrecking machine against B‑FAB. Cargill used her size advantage to bully B‑FAB around the ring, slamming and driving her into corners early and often. B‑FAB fought back with surprising bursts of energy and even hit a nice splash off the top to drag Cargill into the mid‑match grappling and rallies, but Cargill’s power was too much in the end. A massive clothesline followed by a clean pinfall put B‑FAB away, giving Cargill another victory that looked dominant without being overly long.

Summary
The main event was supposed to be a big title defense for Cody Rhodes against Bronson Reed, and on paper it was exciting. They traded big strikes and strong signature maneuvers early, with Rhodes showing off his textbook offense and Reed countering with heavy power moves that made you feel every impact. Things got derailed, though, when Bron Breakker and Logan Paul stormed the ring and battered Reed, turning what should’ve been a straight‑up title match into chaos. The referee had no choice but to call for a disqualification, which meant Rhodes technically retained the WWE Championship, but the cloud of interference left serious heat on the finish and plenty of “ok so now what?” murmurs from the crowd.
