Event Recap
Friday night’s WWE SmackDown from the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan closed out 2025 with a holiday‑flavored show that mixed chaos, physical fights, and a big first‑time championship win. The opening Miracle on 34th Street Fight between Joe Hendry and The Miz brought holiday costumes, weapons and unpredictability, and ended up with Hendry walking out on top after a wild brawl. Charlotte Flair handled Lash Legend in a straightforward singles match that had Flair’s veteran game on full display. The night’s biggest moment came when Carmelo Hayes defeated Ilja Dragunov to capture the United States Championship for the first time, answering Dragunov’s open challenge with crisp offense and finally cementing a main roster title moment he’s been chasing. In tag team action Giulia and Kiana James scored a solid win over Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre in a match that had enough back‑and‑forth to feel like both teams earned their spotlight. Backstage segments teased tension between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre ahead of their Three Stages of Hell match at the next big event, and championships changed hands in a way that gave fans something real to talk about heading into the New Year.

Summary
This holiday‑themed fight was surprisingly fun and unpredictable. Joe Hendry kicked things off with a bit of a comedic concert segment that turned into chaos before The Miz even hit the ring. Otis was dressed as Santa, R‑Truth showed up as a bunny, and once the bell rang things got wild with weapons, holiday props and random brawling that made you feel like anything could happen. Hendry got some belts and chairs into play and eventually scored the win when he put The Miz away after a rough exchange. It was goofy, it was chaotic, but it worked in that this kind of wild gimmick can easily suck all the oxygen out of the arena when done right.

Summary
These two had been trading fiery exchanges for weeks after their previous run‑in ended in a no contest, and this time they delivered a strong, physical fight. Hayes brought crisp counters and big enzuigiri strikes that kept Dragunov guessing, and there were the big moments that had the crowd chanting “this is awesome” from the hard exchanges. Dragunov hit his Constantine Special and massive senton to respond, but Hayes wasn’t done, countering a superplex attempt into a cutter that looked sharp and effective. In the end Hayes hit one more well‑timed move and scored the pinfall, finally winning the United States Title for the first time in his main roster career, which got a loud reaction from the fans in Grand Rapids.
