Segment recap
Jacob assures the crowd that he isn’t going to simply face Roman Reigns at Backlash, he’s going to rip that title away from the OTC and will become the NEW World Heavyweight Champion!
He’s interrupted by The Usos. Jimmy and Jey say they are looking out for Roman, but they are looking out for Jacob as well. Jey points out that Jacob has been thinking a lot about what things might be like if he wins, but he should start thinking about what happens when he loses. Jimmy adds that all of Jacob’s family will be front row for his demise.
Jacob shrugs them offs and reaffirms the confidence that he is going to win. He adds a warning, to Jimmy and Jey, that if they interfere in the match he will burn their family tree to the ground!
Summary
Tiffany Stratton successfully retained the Women’s United States Championship, defeating Kiana James in a competitive opener. James came in with a smart game plan, targeting Stratton’s knee and controlling much of the match with a focused, methodical attack. She nearly stole the title after connecting with a Death Valley Driver, but Stratton showed her trademark resilience and kicked out. Giulia appeared at ringside late in the match, but her presence only created confusion and ended up distracting both competitors. Stratton capitalized on the opening, landing her rolling senton and finishing Kiana off with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to keep the title around her waist.
Summary
Talla Tonga scored a hard-fought victory over Damian Priest in a chaotic match that quickly broke down thanks to constant interference from Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga. Priest came out firing and had several near falls, including a top-rope clothesline and a flurry of kicks that had Tonga on the ropes. Just as Priest looked ready to finish the job with South of Heaven, the numbers game caught up to him. Tama returned to distract the referee, Solo inserted himself into the action, and R-Truth ran down to even the odds. In the confusion, Priest saved Truth from a Samoan Spike, but the brief distraction gave Talla Tonga the opening he needed. The powerhouse blasted Priest with a huge chokeslam to score the pin and notch an impressive win. After the match, MFT surrounded Priest and Truth until Royce Keys ran in to make the save and send the group retreating.

Segment recap
Backstage, Paul Heyman revealed that the favor Gunther called in was a move to SmackDown and an immediate Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at Clash in Italy. Nick Aldis made it official as Gunther signed the contract, giving The Ring General a massive opportunity right out of the gate. Before Cody made his entrance, Heyman made it clear that he was not officially serving as Gunther’s advocate, but simply repaying a debt. Even so, Heyman’s involvement immediately raised eyebrows, especially with his history of aligning himself with the biggest stars in the business.
Summary
Ricky Saints picked up his first big main roster victory, defeating Matt Cardona after surviving a surprisingly competitive match. Cardona controlled most of the action and looked like he might steal the win after connecting with the Broski Boot and later the Rough Ryder, but Saints refused to stay down. After escaping an Unprettier and kicking out of Cardona’s best shot, Saints fired back with a Revolution DDT and followed it up with Roshambo to secure the victory. Cardona once again looked strong in defeat, but Saints got the statement win he needed to continue building momentum.

Segment recap
Cody Rhodes demanded that Gunther come out face-to-face, but Paul Heyman interrupted instead. Cody questioned whether Heyman was now representing Gunther, and after some verbal sparring, Heyman planted a subtle seed by telling Rhodes, “Eventually, they all need a Wise Man.” Moments later, Gunther blindsided Cody from behind and tried to make a statement before their title match. Cody quickly recovered, fought back, and sent Gunther retreating from the ring. Rhodes then repeatedly cut off Gunther’s attempts to re-enter, standing tall as he reminded The Ring General that if he wants the title, he knows exactly where to find him.

Summary
Fatal Influence scored a controversial win over Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss after outside interference from Jade Cargill turned the match upside down. Ripley looked dominant when she finally got into the match, unloading on all three opponents and swinging momentum in her team’s favor. But just as Ripley was closing in on a hot tag, Cargill appeared and prevented her from getting back into the action. The distraction left Alexa Bliss vulnerable, and Jacy Jayne capitalized by blasting Bliss with a punch to score the pinfall. After the match, Cargill continued the assault, leaving Ripley, Flair, and Bliss laid out and raising even more questions about the women’s title picture.

Summary
Royce Keys defeated Tama Tonga in a solid big-man showcase that finally gave Keys something more than a quick squash to chew on. Keys came out hot, immediately tossing Tonga around with a Powerslam, a swinging Clothesline, stiff corner shots and a T-Bone Suplex that made it clear WWE wants the audience buying into his power. Tonga’s best moments came when he stopped trying to match strength and started chopping down the legs, using a Flatliner, a reverse DDT and a missed Keys charge into the steel steps to create some believable danger. Still, this was Keys’ night. After powering up from his knees and daring Tonga to hit him, Keys dumped him over the top rope, then caught Tonga’s diving Superman Punch attempt with a nasty Ultimate Spinebuster for the win. Not a classic, but a clean and useful monster-building match.
Segment recap
SmackDown ended with one of the strangest segments WWE has produced in a long time. Trick Williams held a full-blown funeral for the Gingerbread Man, complete with milk, a bizarre song, and an AI-generated tribute video that somehow made the whole thing even more ridiculous. Just when it looked like the segment couldn’t get any sillier, Sami Zayn interrupted and called out the absurdity before attacking Williams.
Then the Gingerbread Man costume came to life and revealed Lil Yachty, who cracked Zayn with a candy cane. Williams followed up with the Trick Shot to stand tall as the show went off the air. Wrestling is supposed to be fun, but this felt like cartoon nonsense that made everyone involved look worse. A truly baffling way to close SmackDown.
